Smart Balloon Practices

Smart Balloon Practices is an educational program created by The Balloon Council to inform businesses and customers on proper balloon handling to prevent further legislation or regulations on balloons.

  • Weight every helium balloon
  • Do NOT release any balloons into the air, especially those made of foil. Foil balloons have been known to get tangled in powerlines and cause power outages. Foil balloons do not biodegrade.
  • Keep all deflated or popped balloons away from small children to avoid risks of choking. People can choke or suffocate on balloons, especially children under the age of 8. Adults should supervise anyone who needs supervision, especially those under the age of 8.
  • Do NOT use a metallic ribbon with helium balloons.
  • When finished with balloons, pop them and properly dispose of them and any debris they may cause.
  • Do NOT inhale helium.
