Balloon Twists – Fun With Balloons

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. I don't think they meant a balloon apple but they are cute anyway. Have you ever wondered, how you make a balloon apple? These simple balloon creations are extremely simple and versatile. They can be used in a variety of different ways. You can make green apple balloons or you can make red apple balloons, either way, they look delicious. Do Not Eat these balloons! There are three very close balloon twists that often get confused with one another. The apple twist, the tulip twist, and the Yo-Yo twist. These balloon twists are basic balloon twisting techniques used in many different balloon twisting creations. In this post, I'm going to explain the difference between these three balloon twists, as well as show you how to make them yourself. The terms apple twist and tulip twist are often used interchangeably in the balloon community but they are actually slightly different twists, or rather the same twist but with different sized balloons. What Is An Apple Twist A balloon apple twist is when you push a balloon knot through an inflated round balloon, twisting the balloon around the knot. An apple twist is made using round balloons. You can use any size balloon to make an apple twist, although the bigger the balloon the harder it can be to get the twist to hold. I prefer to use a 5", 9", or 11" balloon to make my apple twists. This balloon twist is called the apple twist because it is the twist used to make a balloon apple. The apple twist can be used to create balloon apples, wheels, noses, and other designs. What Is A Tulip Balloon Twist A balloon tulip twist is when you push a balloon knot through an inflated bubble in an entertainer balloon, twisting the balloon around the knot and hiding the knot in the bubble. A tulip twist is made using entertainer balloons, those long skinny balloons. You can either use a 160 or a 260 to make a tulip twist. This balloon twist is called the tulip twist because it is the twist used to make a tulip balloon. A tulip twist can be used to create balloon tulips, small wheels, noses, and other small designs. What Is A Yo-Yo Twist A balloon Yo-Yo twist is an additional horizontal twist of a balloon after either an apple twist or a tulip twist. This balloon twist is called the Yo-Yo twist because when it is done properly it looks like a Yo-Yo. A Yo-Yo twist can be used to create balloon Yo-Yo's, small wheels, and other designs. What Is A Balloon Apple A balloon apple is a balloon or two balloons twisted into the shape of an apple. Balloon apples can be made to look like green granny smith apples, red like a red delicious apple, or really whatever color/ color combination you can think of. How To Make An Apple Balloon Using The Apple Twist Things You Will Need: 11" red (or whatever color apple you are making) balloon 5" green balloon Balloon Pump on Amazon Inflate Balloon Start by blowing up your 11" red balloon to be whatever size you want your apple to be. I like to over inflate my balloon and then let some air out until the balloon is the size I want it to be. Pro Tip: Over inflate your balloon first and then let some air out to soften the balloon. This helps stretch the balloon a little, reducing popage. Tie A Knot In The Neck Of The Balloon Tie a knot in the neck of the balloon. Push The Knot Through Your Balloon Next, you're going to push the knot through your balloon and catch it on the other side with your fingers (if you have poky fingernails then you might need to trim them because they could pop your balloon). This step can be a little tricky so you might need to practice. Remove Your Fingers Remove your finger from the balloon, while holding onto the knot with your other hand. Some people suggest putting your finger in your mouth prior to inserting it into the balloon to prevent your finger from sticking inside the balloon, I don't think this is necessary. Twist And Attach The Green Balloon Then while holding the knot you want to twist it, giving it a couple of good twists. Then attach your green balloon. Enjoy! Congratulations, you have yourself a balloon apple! Where Can I Use A Balloon Apple A balloon apple can be used by itself or in conjunction with other balloon elements to create a whole feeling. You can use balloon apples to decorate your house for back to school or you could give a balloon apple to your favorite teacher. You could even use them to create a photo op. Balloon apples can even be hung from a balloon tree to make a whole apple orchard. The uses for balloon apples are endless. Push The Knot Through Your Balloon Push the knot through your balloon and catch it on the other side with your fingers (if you have poky fingernails then you might need to trim them because they could pop your balloon). This step can be a little tricky so you might need to practice Remove Your Fingers Remove your finger from the balloon, while holding onto the knot with your other hand. Twist And Secure Twist the knot and the uninflated part of the balloon to secure the hold. When the knot is secure, push the knot back inside the balloon. Enjoy! Start With An Apple Twist Or A Tulip Twist It doesn't really matter which one you use, it will depend on your finished design and size. Twist In Half Turn the apple twist or tulip twist horizontally and twist the balloon multiple times until the twist is secure. The balloon should now resemble a Yo-Yo. Enjoy! You did it!
