1. Gather All Of Your Ingredients

  • (25) 5” black balloons
  • (1) 5” green balloon
  • (1) 5” yellow balloon
  • (1) 5” red balloon
  • Balloon Pump on Amazon
  • Fishing line or curling ribbon
  • Weight (optional)

2. Inflate Two Black Balloons

Inflate two black balloons sized to 4″. If you need further help on correctly sizing your balloons check out my blog post, 3 Ways To Size A Balloon.

3. Tie Into Duplet

Tie the two inflated black balloons from the previous step into a duplet. If you need further help on tying a duplet check out my blog post, How To Make A Balloon Duplet.

4. Repeat Steps 2 And 3

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have a total of 11 all-black duplets.

5. Twist Black Duplets Into Quads

Tie two inflated black duplets into a quad, repeat until you have four quads. If you need further help on making a quad check out my blog post, How To Make A Balloon Quad.

6. Inflate One Black Balloon And One Colored Balloon

Inflate one black balloon sized to 4″ and one colored (green, yellow, red) balloon sized to 4″.

7. Tie Into Duplet

Tie the one inflated black balloon and one inflated colored (green, yellow, red) balloon from the previous step into a duplet.

8. Repeat Steps 6 And 7

Repeat steps 6 and 7 until you have three colored duplets (green, yellow, red).

9. Twist Remainding Duplets Into Three Quads

Tie one inflated black duplet and one inflated colored duplet into a quad, and repeat until you have three colored quads.

10. Attach Weight (Optional)

This step is optional. I like to use balloon weights at the base of my Balloon Stoplights / Traffic Lights because my kids have a tendency to know things over if I don’t. If you choose to do this step, tie the fishing line or curling ribbon to your weight then wrap the fishing line or curling ribbon around your base quad. Your base quad can be any of the black quads.

11. Add Your Quads One By One

This is where all your hard work comes together. Add your quads one by one, starting with a black quad (if you chose to attach a weight from the previous step you would next attach your green quad). Then your green quad, followed by another black quad. Then your yellow quad, followed by another black quad. Then your red quad, followed by your last black quad.

12. Enjoy!

What Is A Balloon Stoplight / Traffic Light

A balloon stoplight/traffic light is a cluster or gathering of balloons to look like a stoplight or traffic light. They include green, yellow, and red balloons to resemble the colors of the actual lights of the stoplight or traffic light.

Where Would I Use A Balloon Stoplight / Traffic Light

This would be great for any kind of car-themed party or a NASCAR party. The concept is the same as the simple balloon column, only smaller. You could also attach helium-filled balloons and make this simple stoplight into a cute stoplight column.
